News!

13/07/2022

I admit to being useless in the art of self promotion. I'm bad at it, really bad, terrible in fact. So, for this exact reason, it is always lovely to see that The Fifth Girl has been mentioned online under headings like 'best crime fiction books in 2021' in the Daily Mail or by Frost Magazine as, 'a truly gripping thriller from the winner of the Daily Mail First Novel Competition'.

It is also lovely, really lovely, when people reach out to tell me how much they enjoyed my book or when they take the time to post a review. I am eternally grateful to all those people even if I can't thank them all in person.

My friend sent this to me, it was just before Christmas and she was in an Asda store in Newcastle. I had seen my book on the shelves on the day that it first arrived there but only one had been sold and, to be honest, seeing it was so overwhelming that I don't think it really hit home. Seeing this though, with only one left on the shelf, knowing that someone somewhere might read it over Christmas, or even get it for Christmas, well, that was overwhelming. So here's a photo of The Fifth Girl on a supermarket shelf somewhere in Newcastle. Who says that dreams don't come true?

Daily Mail Debuts with Fanny Blake.

The Fifth Girl was featured by Fanny Blake in the Daily Mail on the 29th of of October 2021. Fanny called it a 'belter of a police procedural' and said that Rawls was 'an excellent new detective on the block with a troubled domestic life and touching vulnerability'. She finished the review by saying that she is 'looking forward to his (Rawls's) next outing' - me too.

Thanks Fanny, this really made my day!

Paperback release day!

Yay. I cannot tell you how long I have waited for this moment. And today is the day, the 28th of October 2021. I can call myself an author - officially. Also, I have had my first ever review in a newspaper - in this case the Peterborough Evening Telegraph and double yay, they gave it 8 out of 10 stars! Go me, go The Fifth Girl. Actually - go buy The Fifth Girl, the Peterborough Evening Telegraph can't be wrong!

So, this was exciting! My first ever radio interview.

I spent ten minutes chatting with the lovely Hannah Murray at Talk Radio Europe on her book show last night.  Hannah's show is a wonderful listen, it's chock full of interesting guests and certainly worth a listen.

You can find my interview on their catch up section: 11/10/2021 between 20:00 and 21:00 hrs.

I was so excited to be part of Dead Good Book's Best Books for Halloween article. We were limited to crime thrillers and I chose one of my all time favourites - Gorky Park. If I had had a free reign I might have gone with Ghost Story by Peter Straub or the Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, or Something Evil this Way Comes by Ray Bradbury, or the King of Horror: Stephen King - probably Salem's Lot.

Anyway the list in the article was full of fabulous books and I've added a few to my to be read pile. Click on the button below to see the full list.
